London & Paris

2012/02/25 1 Comment

I spent 6 day 3 days in London 3 days in Paris, what did I do? Run!

I tried to get in as much as I possibly could in such a short time frame in each city, but I did fairly well! I was and am lucky enough to have friends in both cities so did not have to worry about lodging which was a huge plus. Except for not knowing how to use my friends key in London and having to wait until her boyfriend came so he could show my how to use the stupid thing, I had no problems with my visits other than that.

Tried to see if I could get a chance to see a live changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace but had to settle for a tour through the palace instead, yes rough time indeed! Truly stunning in every detail. They were also exhibiting a select few of the Queens dresses which were just works of art in themselves. I was able to go through the exact hall where all banquets and parties have been held in this beautiful palace.

Of course I had to have a pint with fish and chips. Yes, a very touristy thing to do but was fun none the less. Another item I could check off my bucket list. Was able to ride a double decker bus, mini scary when your on the second level and the bus driver drove it like a mini cooper! Many more things to do in London but when my friend said ‘Let’s go to Paris!’ how could I refuse?

We took the train just a short ride away and was more than impressed with the beauty/charm/dirty city that it is Paris. Yes, I said dirty, but I loved every part of it! This city should be on every travelers list of places to go. I guess my love for art and all that it stands for makes this city even better in my eyes. One can be inspired by every thing your eye’s touch. It’s not hard to see why people say they fall in love with this place. How could you not?

I tried to fit in as many museums as I could and brought back more books than any other type of souvenir. Yes, books! Books I realize my not have been the best idea since it was a very heavy suitcase on the way back but I will cherish every page.

In the meantime I will cherish the photos that I do have, unfortunately I somehow lost a ton of the photos off my SD card. Another lesson in backing up everything you can people. Now I do this religiously. Hence the post so that I will never loose them here 😉

Jewelry – One of my loves…..

2011/08/23

Growing up I was always able to enjoy the luxury of going to the mall and shopping at the Claire’s Boutique store. Most of you reading this are probably women and incase you are that occasional man, this is a ‘cheap’ accessory shop for women.

Ok, ok so yes, not the best of places to purchase from, but hey when your a kid and low on cash you need to compromise.

But as I grew older my skin could not take the fake metals and plastic pieces from my go to accessories shops. With all my travels to the fabulous downtown Los Angeles I began my jewelry endeavors!

Starting with beads I quickly taught myself to wire wrap and create original designs. Then I upgraded to the Swarovski crystal world and just fell in love with the possibilities.

Realizing that not all metals were created equal I found a metal smithing class and truly fell in love with this output of creativity. Working with beads, stones, tools have more than expanded my skills in jewelry design.

Handmade Aprons

2011/08/18

Growing up my mom made tons of cloths for all of us. So naturally I loved playing with all the tools at a very young age. Not quite knowing how to use everything but having loads of fun none the less.

Can’t say that I inherited the perfect sewing gene, my elder sister attended the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Downtown Los Angeles completing their Theater Costuming program. So I have been lucky enough to have plenty of great support even when creating my wedding dress. My mother and my sister worked so hard on that dress I could never be able to express my gratitude for that.

These are a few aprons I made just recently. The first one here was created from pattern purchased at Joann’s by Simplicity (3752). This actually is a pattern packet that has 24 pieces which is great, you get more then your moneys worth.

Intending to make the same one above, I cut the first piece laid out the fabric for the second and realized I would not have enough fabric. I could have added additional fabric but since I was intending to use this as primarily a hold my iphone/ipod and anything else I would like to carry, I figured I would use it as it was and make my own little walk around apron.

Empty Los Angeles

2011/07/15

Just saw a great video that put together pictures of what LA would look like with no cars on the roads. Our air would be cleaner that’s a given, but hopefully one day with energy efficient cars we can end the added pollution. Here is to hoping we improve and make the world a better place for our future generations.

The Beauty of Las Vegas

2011/06/29

I love Sin City for several reasons. The city more than has it attractive features, but the best thing is that every time you go back there is something new. Architecture is near and dear to my heart to that is where it all started the first time I soaked in the city.

I held out till my 21st birthday so that I could truly take in every portion of this fast paced city. Granted you truly can take it much of it before this age given that there is just so much to see. Make sure and do plenty of research before hand to make sure you are able to keep things cost effective.

Finding the places you like then truly becoming loyal will be beneficial if you would like to keep Vegas on your places for vacation. This will apply even if you are not a gambler, just knowing where to go and and when to stay will save money in the long run. I have my few travel tips on this page if you would like to read how I save my few dollars in my travel ventures.

Now that I am a few years older and at least 15 trips later Vegas remains one of my favorite places to go!

It’s more than wonderful to feel the love of materials and detail when entering almost every building in Las Vegas. Yes, I will agree not every idea is in everyones taste or should even be done in the ‘family’ spectrum, but fascinating non the less. Watching an old film, seeing the Vegas strip in the early years makes you look in awe at what it has become today. So much to see you could walk for days possibly weeks taking it all in.

So hence I will slowly share more and more of the great finds of Las Vegas and why I have loved this city since the moment I laid eyes on her. She truly is one of a kind and I look forward to sharing her beauty.

My husband and I love Downtown Las Vegas, don’t get me wrong I truly love the strip as well but we found our hotel we love The Golden Nugget and yes I do go to gamble but love my money to much so prefer a tad bit of a smaller scale table selection. Which is probably why I love this city so much they offer so much on so many spectrums.

Here are a few examples of the Downtown Las Vegas. Lady Luck, seen below has been closed since 2006 after begin open first in 1964. She is scheduled to reopen in 2012 but will long live in the history of old Las Vegas. Here she is before she hopefully has a new life ahead and we can get to enjoy more luck and good times within.

I will be excited to see what they do with her!

Another old classic The Plaza. This has just recently been closed for remodeling but still has the casino and buffet open is working on the hotel portion first. We last went to Vegas in 2008 and it was open so looks as though this has been a recent deal, lets see what this portion of Vegas will look like on are next visit!

Digital Art | My Mandala

2011/02/28

For a project in my digital art class I was to create my own mandala. For those that are not familiar with a mandala here is the proper definition: Mandala: a graphic and often symbolic pattern usually in the form of a circle divided into four separate sections or bearing a multiple projection of an image.

An image that symbolizes me, starting with a blank white screen its fun to be able to twist and turn and maneuver it, to where it does invoke my energy. Vibrance and color are just the first feature to the complicated web of shapes and textures that surround you.

Using the letters J-E-N, I created this energetic piece. Once again proving that art and emotions will come when your passion is behind what you do. Soak in your passion It will lead you farther to happiness.
